Functional Nutrition

While Functional Nutrition relies on some of the same principals of Functional Medicine such as:

  1. Valuing the therapeutic relationship,

  2. Working with systems and frameworks, and

  3. Always aiming to address the root causes as opposed to just chasing signs and symptoms or “treating” diagnosis, it is different than Functional Medicine.

In Functional Nutrition we do not diagnose, prescribe or treat. Instead, we

  • Understand the whole person.

  • Address the terrain within which those signs, symptoms or diagnosis manifested.

  • Educate the client on why their health challenges arose and how to take back control of their own health.

  • Use our specific skillset to fill the GAP that exists between the physician and the client, speaking the language of the physician as well as the language of the patient.

In Functional Nutrition we break down the science of the body so that the patient can understand themselves and their need to change more comprehensively. It’s a modality that works to not just support but educate the patient in what’s going on in their body and how making targeted diet and lifestyle modification will shift the terrain and help the client to meet their goals.

Functional Nutrition is a holistic approach that considers a person's individual history, cultural background, circumstances and lifestyle, a comprehension of what it means to be human – to have a history and a culture and a body, all of it. The goal is to support the body's natural healing process, reduce the risk of chronic diseases, and improve overall quality of life, instead of just treating symptoms. It's an individualized approach, in which Routes to Health, considers all factors of a person's health and creates a personalized plan to achieve optimal health.
